FAQs

To obtain the CCSP (Certified Cloud Security Professional) certification, candidates must meet the following experience requirements:

Five years of cumulative, full-time IT experience, including:

  • At least three years in information security
  • At least one year in one or more of the six CCSP domains

However, earning a post-secondary degree (bachelor’s or master’s) in computer science, information technology, or a related field can count for one year of the required experience.

No 5 years of experience yet?

You can still sit for the CCSP exam as an Associate of (ISC)². In this pathway, you’ll have six years from the date you pass the exam to earn the required experience and obtain the full certification.

CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional):

  • A broad, in-depth certification for all areas of information security.
  • Covers eight security domains, including security and risk management, asset security, software development security, and more.
  • Ideal for senior security roles, like security managers and architects, across any environment (not just cloud).

CCSP (Certified Cloud Security Professional):

  • Focuses specifically on cloud security—design, implementation, and management of secure cloud infrastructures.
  • It’s about securing cloud data, cloud architecture, and cloud operations.
  • Ideal for professionals who work extensively with cloud environments, such as cloud security architects and cloud risk managers.

In essence, CISSP gives you a broad, foundational view of security, while CCSP provides deeper specialization in cloud security.

Yes. The CCSP certification is valid for three years.

To maintain the certification, you need to:

  • Earn 30 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits each year
  • Total of 90 CPE credits over the three-year cycle
  • Pay the annual maintenance fee

If you don’t meet these requirements, your CCSP certification may lapse. But if it does, you can reinstate it by retaking the exam.
