Frequently Asked Questions

The time required to prepare for any level of NSE certification depends on the candidate. Depending on the candidate’s level of experience and aptitude, the amount of time they spend preparing and studying will vary.

Candidates can potentially complete the lower levels of the program (NSE 1-3) quickly. The mid-level to upper-level technical certifications (NSE 4-7) require a greater investment of time and resources. Formal training is recommended.

NSE 8 is the expert-level certification. It is composed of both a written component and practical assessment component, and is intended for very experienced technical professionals only. Depending on the candidate’s experience, the NSE 8 certification can require many months of preparation.

Yes. NSE 1 – 7 certifications are valid for two (2) years from the date all certification requirements are fulfilled.

NSE 8 certifications are valid for three (3) years from the certification grant date – the date the practical exam is passed.

Certification expiration dates cannot be extended. Examinees should re-certify before expiration.

Fortinet Authorized Training Centers, or ATCs, are training centers that have been carefully selected by Fortinet. ATCs are authorized to teach NSE Training courses in their local language. ATCs make up a network of accredited training organizations located in over 130 countries and territories.

You can take training locally, close to home. ATCs are conveniently located throughout the world and offer hands-on training on a multitude of Fortinet products.

You can take training in your local language, and you can network in your local language during your training. Your knowledge of Fortinet products and solutions, as well as general cybersecurity, will be increased and enhanced, and you will get the best preparation possible to take NSE certification exams.

In ATCs, training is delivered by Fortinet Certified Trainers, or FCTs. FCTs are certified Fortinet instructors who have demonstrated expertise and proficiency with Fortinet products and solutions, combined with proven instructional training skills. Only FCTs meet the high standards required to deliver training in the Fortinet Network Security Expert (NSE) Certification Program.

FCTs are continuously assessed by Fortinet to ensure that ATC students receive the same level of delivery that they would receive from a Fortinet instructor.
