The push aligns with Malaysia’s Digital Action Plan 2030 (MD2030), launched in 29 June 2026, which targets 500,000 high-value digital jobs and aims to increase the digital economy’s contribution to 30% of GDP by 2030. The digital economy accounted for 23.5% of Malaysia’s GDP in 2023, with an average annual growth rate of 10.3% since 2019.

Yet the supply of digital talent has not kept pace. According to AWS-commissioned research, 78% of Malaysian employers surveyed were seeking to fill roles requiring digital skills, while 85% said finding the talent they need was challenging. Based on the value of IT Certification Report, 63% of IT professionals reported receiving or expecting to receive a promotion after earning a certification (Pearson VUE, 2025).
