Overview

With organizations increasingly reliant on automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and DevOps workflows, IT teams need professionals who can automate manual processes, manage configuration changes, and support reliable delivery pipelines across different environments.

CompTIA AutoOps+ gives systems administrators, cloud administrators, network operations specialists, and DevOps professionals a focused way to validate those skills.

This course validates your skills to automate, secure, and optimize IT operations across cloud and hybrid environments. As part of CompTIA’s new Expansion Series, AutoOps+ is designed to augment your core IT competencies with specialized expertise in automation, scripting, and infrastructure management. Gain hands-on experience to bridge traditional IT roles with modern DevOps practices.

Skills Covered

AutoOps+ validates your ability to use scripting and automation to streamline IT workflows, manage enterprise systems, automate configuration and provisioning, build and manage CI pipelines, and implement secure delivery pipelines.

Prerequisites

You do not need to be a software engineer to pursue CompTIA AutoOps+, but you should be comfortable with basic scripting and automation concepts. The exam covers Bash, PowerShell, Python, Git workflows, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD pipeline concepts.

For traditional IT operations professionals, AutoOps+ is designed to help build the automation skills now used across modern infrastructure roles.

Target Audience

CompTIA AutoOps+ is designed for IT professionals with two to three years of experience in a core operations role who want to build or validate automation skills. It is a strong fit for systems administrators, cloud administrators, network operations specialists, infrastructure engineers, and junior to mid-level DevOps professionals.

  • For systems administrators, AutoOps+ helps validate the ability to automate configuration, provisioning, and troubleshooting across mixed IT environments.
  • For cloud administrators and cloud engineers, it supports skills in automated resource deployment, REST API operations, and cloud-native toolchains.
  • For network operations specialists, it supports the use of automation for configuration, security policies, and Infrastructure as Code.

The certification can also support professionals moving toward roles such as DevOps engineer, automation engineer, platform engineer, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practitioner, or IT automation architect.

Training & Certification Guide

AutoOps+ is an expansion certification focused on IT automation, scripting, system configuration, and CI/CD. It helps infrastructure professionals bridge the gap between traditional IT operations and modern DevOps practices.

Unlike a full job-role certification, an expansion certification is shorter and more focused, helping IT professionals build skills tied to emerging technologies and practices.

The certification is built for professionals who already work in or are moving into infrastructure roles. It is especially relevant for IT pros who want to automate operations, support cloud and hybrid environments, streamline infrastructure management, and build a stronger foundation for DevOps-related work.

A key part of the AutoOps+ value proposition is vendor neutrality. Instead of focusing only on one cloud provider or one toolset, AutoOps+ validates broadly applicable automation concepts that can be used across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, VMware, and other environments.

CompTIA AutoOps+ is not intended to replace platform-specific DevOps certifications. Instead, it provides a vendor-neutral foundation in automation and DevOps practices that can apply across multiple platforms.

  • With the AWS Certified DevOps Engineer certification, professionals focus deeply on AWS services and is best suited for professionals working primarily in AWS environments.
  • Microsoft AZ-400: DevOps Engineer Expert focuses on Azure DevOps and the Microsoft ecosystem.
  • HashiCorp Terraform Associate focuses specifically on Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Docker Certified Associate focuses on containerization.

CompTIA AutoOps+ is broader. It covers scripting, Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, REST API operations, CI/CD pipelines, secrets management, and secure delivery practices. That makes it especially useful for IT professionals who work across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments rather than in a single vendor ecosystem.

Candidates can prepare for CompTIA AutoOps+ using CompTIA CertMaster learning products.

  • CertMaster Study supports concept instruction and exam preparation.
  • CertMaster Labs provides hands-on practice using real machines and networks.
  • CertMaster Perform combines instruction, hands-on practice, and assessments for a more complete training experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

CompTIA AutoOps+ is designed to comply with the ISO 17024 standard and is pending ANAB review and approval. CompTIA plans to seek ISO 17024 accreditation through ANAB and DoD 8140 approval after launch.

Because accreditation and mapping are pending, candidates and employers should not treat AutoOps+ as fully approved for DoD 8140 requirements until that approval is finalized.

CompTIA AutoOps+ may be valuable for IT professionals who want to move from manual infrastructure administration into more automated, cloud-connected, and DevOps-oriented work.

For employers, AutoOps+ can help identify professionals with validated automation skills who can support operational efficiency, reduce manual errors, and contribute to more reliable infrastructure workflows. For IT professionals, it can help demonstrate readiness for roles that require automation, hybrid infrastructure management, and DevOps collaboration.

AutoOps+ helps you build practical skills for end-to-end automation, DevOps practices, scripting, code management, system configuration, continuous integration, and secure delivery workflows.
